In 1948 Bowman produced a set of the biggest stars of the hardwood, including “Mr. Basketball,” George Mikan. The 1948 Bowman Basketball set was comprised of 72 cards with a color photo of the hoops star on the front of the card, along with the player’s vital info and a short biography on the card backs. This was the only basketball set released by Bowman until Topps released a set under its name for the 2003-2004 season. Stars in the set include Ernie Calverley, Red Holzman, Max Zaslofsky, Jim Pollard, and George Mikan. These cards make great additions to anyone’s collection.
